Beverly Stoehr taught ceramics for fifteen years before she started making dolls. She was asked to judge a ceramics show in Rochester, NY were there was a beautiful porcelain doll that caught her eye. From that moment on she tried to learn as much about porcelain as she could. She attended a week long class at Bell's Ceramics in Florida and then went home and sold all of her ceramic molds. She wanted to get into doll-making as this had been a long lost love of hers for many years. Beverly Stoehr shown left with her dolls at a show.

It was a hard road at first as she didn't know if there was anyone out there who loved dolls as much as her. Beverly Stoehr went to Connie's in Oregon where she studied with Theo Menzebach who was a Master Sculptor from the Hummel factory in Germany. She studied under him for five years. Then she studied under Marlene Engler of the Netherlands and also Hildegard Gunzel from Germany.

Beverly Stoehr has since worked for the Effanbee Doll Company along with Edna Hibel, the Danbury Mint and Lenox China. She has been Marie Osmond's teacher of sculpting and mentor for five years. She has sculpted for the Marie Osmond line for six years.

Beverly Stoehr has won numerous awards for her dolls and has been featured in countless magazine articles. She loves teaching people the art form of sculpting as it brings out so much love in a person to see how they can treat a wonderful and beautiful object. Beverly Stoehr's Raggies shown to the right.

Gregg Ortiz will be joining us for EXPO 2010.

As a self taught Artist, Gregg Ortiz strives to express all the things that are dear to him through his imagination, creativity and thoughts. The diverse sophistication of the arts, theatre and fashion will always be translated through his passion for sculpting.

Inducing the harmony and complexity of so many elements that compose the completion of his work depicts all of his emotions and expressions. Gregg creates, sharing the enjoyment and gratification received, in which reflects his love for the arts.

As an Artist, Gregg Ortiz believes that when you put your feelings in your work, it will shine through. He feels very fortunate to be able to continue this path in the arts. It depicts a major part of who he is. As an Artist and Dancer, he loves to perform and bring smiles throughout his work. Seeing people take that one moment to relate or remember a memorable moment in time is the best gratification.

Challenging himself helps him develop his work, taking it to the next level. Gregg also surrounds himself with assertive people.... being that his work has a great interpretation of the theater, he continues to be a part of that entertainment Mecca.... when he can be part of what he creates.

It enables Gregg Ortiz to be accurate in the outcome of the doll he creates... there must be a flow and a harmony in a piece. Its not just the sculpt but the marriage of color, sculpt, and proportions, and definitely the attention to detail. Movement in the hands are very important, it dictates the finished product.

Gregg Ortiz has been a sculptor for more than fifteen years now and he has definitely learned much throughout his experiences. Studying his past work has enabled him to focus on improving and change. He believes that not creating the same thing over and over has stimulated him to let himself become more creative.

When Gregg begins to sculpt, he thinks of an idea or a concept and will let that guide him. Depending on what the subject matter will be, he will research it, other than that, his archive of vintage fabrics or hand dyed feathers and trims will dictate the final outcome.

Gregg Ortiz says that his favorite part of the process of creating a doll would have to be obtaining the expressions on the sculpt. He feels that he was then able to leave a part of himself in the sculpt. He can sculpt for hours at a time as it is very relaxing to him.

Gregg says he has been very blessed to not only surround himself with extraordinary Artists, but also being able to learn from each other. As for the response he has obtained throughout the years from Collector's, that's the best prize of all.... support and love from people who understand and receive what he loves to do best.

Gregg Ortiz has won numerous Awards and has been featured in countless publications. He has exhibited at every major show in the US and abroad. He has some licensed Walt Disney World products including a Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh and The Little Mermaid. He and his products have been featured on several US and European TV Shopping Networks. He has avid celebrity Collectors such as Demi Moore and Richard Simmons.

You will enjoy seeing his breath-taking creations at THE SE DOLL & BEAR EXPO in Asheville. Be sure to stop by and visit him. You can get more info and see some of his creations at

Bonnie Kephart and Debbie Link of Bonnie's Babies will be back for
the SE DOLL & BEAR EXPO 2010. They were at our EXPO 2008 & 2009 as well as other Shows.

Bonnie's Babies is a Mother and Daughter team. They have worked together for six years now to create the most like-like babies possible. Bonnie is the Mom and she is the one who got them started with reborning babies. Bonnie has been collecting dolls for many years and in 2002 when she got her first computer, discovered Ebay, and found reborn babies, that was it. She was hooked.

After purchasing several reborn babies from wonderful artists on Ebay, Bonnie decided to try her hand at making a reborn for herself. After much trial and error and help along the way, the first Bonnie's Babies reborn was created. The first baby was made for Bonnie to keep for herself. About ten babies later, she decided that maybe she didn't have room to keep all these babies for herself. That is where Debbie came in. She is the computer geek in the family, and had a digital camera, so when Bonnie decided that maybe her babies were good enough to sell on Ebay, she asked Debbie to get involved and help with part of the process. (No, the baby to the left is not real, it is a Bonnie's Babies reborn.)

It only took having a few babies coming into Debbie's house before she decided she would love to try her hand at reborning babies. She found she had a knack for painting and has spent many years perfecting her techniques. She does admit though that her very favorite part is shopping for them and dressing them. Bonnie is phenomenal at rooting hair so she roots all of their babies. And, as they say, the rest is history. Many of Bonnie's Babies have found new loving Mommies and new homes.

Check them out at Doll EXPO 2009 and on their website at:
